Best Breakfast in Portland: John St. Cafe

I have been to quite a few breakfast places here in Portland in the last 2 years and I can safely say that the John Street Cafe has the best breakfast in Portland.

Almost every Thursday a group of us tries a new place (or go back to a favorite) with the only requirements being that it doesn’t look seedy, and is open at 7am, and that’s how we stumbled upon the John Street Cafe.

The group of 8 of us is very rarely agreed on what the best dish is anywhere, but when we all show up and order the exact same thing at John Street Cafe every time we go (other than our token non-conforming Aussie pansy friend) it speaks volumes.

Listing everything on their menu would just be futile. Just go there, and say “Bacavo.” The Bacavo is a very, very tasty omelet filled with bacon, avocado, cheese and drenched with blue cheese sauce. The potatoes are excellent too, and you get a few slices of fruit and 4 slices of toast also included. It seriously doesn’t get better for breakfast! Pair this with a coffee, and you’re at $10 flat.

Of course the nancies from PDX Food & Drink won’t like it, because they never like anything. But the rest of you should be safe.

I can’t stress it enough. If you want the best breakfast in Portland, head to the John Street Cafe, and order the Bacavo and tell them you heard about it from Portland Logue.
