Head to Austin for the City Limits Festival

Austin is known for great music – and not just of the country/western variety you might expect from elsewhere in Texas. The youthful, progressive city of Austin is home to the SXSW festival, and it plays host to the annual Austin City Limits Festival, which began in 2002. This year’s festival will take place from October 8 to 10, and with eight stages playing live music from local and national acts, plenty of food and drink, and special activities for the kids, it’s one of the best events of Austin’s fall season.

Austin is a great destination all year round, though it can be stiflingly hot during the summer. Once October rolls around, the temperatures begin to drop and the weather becomes much more pleasant, making this an ideal time to visit. Hotels in Austin usually drop their rates around this time as well – though you can expect special event rates around the festival to be much higher, so book early.

Cheap flights to Austin are pretty easy to come by during this time though, so a trip for the festival can still be quite affordable. Austin is also only about 30 minutes from San Antonio, so if you plan on renting a car and find that flights to San Antonio are cheaper than those to Austin, it may be worth the extra drive time to fly into the other airport.
