Name: Hood to Coast
Date: Weekend around the 25th of August
Location: Government Camp (Mt. Hood) to Seaside, Oregon
Contact information: www.hoodtocoast.com
What is it: A relay running race covering 197 miles
Info: 2006 will be the 25th year for this annual relay event, which covers 197 miles from Mt. Hood to Seaside, Oregon. Teams are comprised of 12 people, each of whom run three legs of varying difficulty. The teams are split up into two vans. One van ‘rests’ while the other follows and supports their runners. The vans are usually decorated with team names and other items such as blow up dolls, paint and sound systems.
Start times are staggered every twenty minutes. The winning teams finish in sub-19 hours and usually start in the last wave, based on their times from the previous year.
Entry into the race is $1,000, and not all applicants are guaranteed a spot so immediate registration is required. High school runners can take part in the Portland to Coast run, while walkers can also do the same route.
