Oregon’s Animal Debates
Oregon has a thing for its natural wildlife…but what happens when two of them are in conflict?
Controversy, of course.
Wildlife officials are wondering what to do about the infestation of sea lions in the Columbia River. They fear the cutesy animals could kill up to 10% of the endangered spring salmon heading downstream. They’ve tried scaring them away, setting up deterrents and other obstacles, but still no luck. The next recourse? Shooting the sea lions for doing what nature told them – catching fish!
