Where to Watch the World Cup in Portland

Portland has the well-deserved nickname of “Soccer City USA.” Going to PGE Park to watch the Timbers play is great, and will be even better next year when they’re in the MLS, but if you didn’t make it to South Africa to see this year’s World Cup in person you’re stuck watching the games on TV.

Watching from the comfort of your living room is convenient, but if you’d like to enjoy the camaraderie of watching the World Cup with other soccer fans in Portland, here are some of the best places in Portland where you can watch the 2010 World Cup.

  • Pioneer Courthouse Square – Portland’s living room will have a big-screen set up for the World Cup final game on Sunday, July 11th. The game is set to start at 11am, but you might want to get there early to stake out a good seat.

  • Beulahland – Beulahland will be opening up at 6:30 every morning during the World Cup, and they’ve got a few screens showing the games. (118 NE 28th Avenue, beulahlandpdx.com)

  • Bakery Bar – Bakery Bar is another spot that will be open at 6:30am each day during the World Cup, and they’ve also got several big screens. (2935 NE Glisan Street, bakerybar.com)

  • Piazza Italia and Caffe Umbria – As long as Italy’s playing (& doing well), Piazza Italia and Caffe Umbria are fun places to watch the games.   • Costello’s Travel Caffe – Costello’s will be open for all 7am games throughout the tournament, & will have World Cup matches on throughout the rest of the day. (2222 NE Broadway, costellostravelcaffe.com)

  • Skybox Pub & Grill – Skybox has 18 HD screens, and you’ll find the World Cup prominently displayed on them. (7981 SE Milwaukie Avenue, skyboxpub.com)
